B&B Hof Beygaert

Welcome

to B&B Hof Beygaert

A unique location

Hof Beygaert enjoys a unique location on a quiet, low-traffic street in the heart of Aalst. A stone's throw from the E40 motorway, within walking and cycling distance of the Aalst main market square and shopping streets. Those who prefer the peace and quiet of nature will easily find their way along the signposted walks.

Easily reached by car, bike or public transport, we make the ideal base for both business and leisure stays. We also have a gated car park and a spacious, secure bicycle shed.

It stays in the family

Hof Beygaert is the birthplace of Lieven's mother Els and grandmother Rosa. Lieven spent much of his childhood here. When, in 2007, our family moved into the thoroughly renovated stables of the square farmstead, the dream of sharing this oasis of calm with others began to take shape.

The family tradition of warm hospitality gained a new chapter in the summer of 2019 with the opening of our B&B. Each room is named after one of the strong women in the Beygaert family tree: Rosa, Suzanne, Marie and Emilie.

Rooms to dream away in, fitted with every comfort

We offer you 4 unique non-smoking rooms, 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor. The rooms provide all the comfort and privacy a guest could wish for. From high-quality boxspring beds 210 cm long, to a fitted kitchenette with an espresso machine, a spacious bathroom with a rain shower, a powerful Wi-Fi connection and digital television.

We chose a high-quality, stylish finish, exactly the way we truly want it. We also worked with local craftspeople to give this property the finish and character it deserves.

A breakfast to revive you

We deliberately choose quality and authenticity and love to spoil you in the way you may expect from a stylish B&B stay. We go for bread fresh from the baker, freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, quality toppings and characterful regional products. You enjoy your breakfast in the cosy warmth of our living room or, in fine weather, in our inner courtyard.

For long-stay guests there is also the option of choosing a room without breakfast. All rooms feature a well-equipped kitchenette so you can fend for yourself.

Natural swimming pool with marginal plants at B&B Hof Beygaert

Swimming in living water

Since this summer, a dip in our natural swimming pool comes with the stay. No chlorine, no chemistry: the water stays clean thanks to marginal plants, a finely tuned filter system and a living biological balance. You feel it straight away, the water is noticeably softer, and that pale green tint simply comes with the territory.

A towel, a lounger under the parasol and a garden rustling quietly along, you really do not need much more. A few lengths before breakfast, a plunge under after a hot day, or just floating about watching the clouds go by. Once people are in, they usually stay rather longer than planned. Do read more about our pool and the house rules.

A place to recharge your batteries

It is a place to recover for your trusty steed too. In our secure bicycle shed your electric bike will never be short of a socket. And for those arriving in an electric car, you can recharge your batteries at one of the two charging points while you enjoy your stay.

Rooms

Space, light and cosiness

On the ground floor you choose an apartment of 37m2 (rooms Suzanne and Rosa) with a living room with open kitchen, a separate toilet and a separate bedroom (king-size double bed) with an adjoining bathroom.

On the first floor you will find studio rooms of 35m2 (rooms Emilie and Marie) with a living room with open kitchen. The toilet is located in the bathroom. The beds can be made up either as a double bed or as two separate single beds. Room Marie additionally has a sofa bed, allowing you to stay there with three people.

Our apartments and studio rooms are ideal for both a short stay and a stay of several days or weeks.

Every room comes with:

To experience

Aalst, fair city of my dreams

Aalst = Carnival! Of course! But Aalst has so much more to offer. At the risk of forgetting a whole lot of "that one too, of course!" places, we are happy to point you to a few spots that spontaneously come to mind. But believe us, it is only the tip of the iceberg of discoveries awaiting you here in Aalst. Martine is happy to suggest addresses tailored to your taste and needs. We also recommend you drop by the tourist information office on the Hopmarkt, where the enthusiastic city staff will gladly help you find your way.

    Fonetik

Fonetik is one of those treasure-filled places that make your interior happy, here too a woman at the helm, Melanie.

  • Shop interior with a rail of coats beside a white marble fireplace and mirror

    Pastoor

Pastoor with a capital P, the fashion and interior store where Francis puts his heart and soul. A commitment that goes beyond their beautiful building on "de vesten". Pastoor goes for quality, both in his "clothes for gentlemen" and in his offering for ladies, and the keepers for your interior. Francis has a pronounced heart for craftsmanship from here. Amen. Since February 2024 you will also find the coffee bar KOP under the same roof as Pastoor. So a gentleman can enjoy a lovely KOP coffee while the lady tries on clothes ... or the other way around.

  • Model wearing bold round black glasses against a dark green backdrop

    Optiek Pupil

For years on end "Pupilleken" has been our family's eyewear supplier of choice. Besides a unique range of quality and stylish glasses, Lies and Caro deliver honest advice and exceptional service.

  • Praline stamped with the golden Aalst onion figure beside Chocolaterie Royal's oval logo

    Chocolaterie Royal

Those who stay with us are welcomed with a praline from Eddy, the driven master chocolatier behind Chocolaterie Royal. Mind you do not walk past the little shop in the Molenstraat, it would be a shame to let that sweet sin slip by.

    Molenstraat 41

    Website: Chocolaterie Royal
  • A hand holding up a card reading "Groeten oit Oilsjt" above the rooftops of the city

    Huis 19

A small gift or a bag of sweets, but above all an assortment of "Aalst" souvenirs and cards beckon you to pop into Huis 19 and let the ever-enthusiastic Gerlinde advise you.

    Nieuwstraat 19

  • Shop interior with a large Asterix statue between cabinets full of comics and games

    Hermelijn

We ourselves enjoy an evening of board games with friends, and the game offering has long moved beyond Monopoly, Stratego or Connect Four. To see the wood for the trees, Hermelijn is the place to be. You will find not only an extensive range of board games, you are also helped in choosing the game that suits you. Hermelijn also caters to comic lovers with an up-to-date offering.

    Geraardsbergsestraat 8

  • Bicycles in a tall industrial hall with a wooden track and the bike shop’s sign

    Cimorné

The Cimorné is more a meeting place than a pure shopping gem. That does not change the fact that it is the home base of "De fietserij", the socially engaged "bike maker" with a twist. You can also enjoy a haircut there. Have you long dreamed of that tattoo or a plant/green creation that may be just a little different? Then be sure to drop by.

    Alfred Nichelsstraat 14

  • Copper pot still and distillation column in the distillery

    Stokerij De Moor

With more than a century of tradition as a genever distiller on the counter, the De Moor family has a powerful story to tell. And you feel that passion in every chat with Greet and Patrick. The world-famous gins FG 20-3 and especially the oriGin are hits of stature. Lieven's preference remains the hidden gem from the De Moor range: 1910 Founder's Reserve XO 12-year Single Malt, which makes even the seasoned whisky connoisseur doubt his expertise. That Sergio Herman travels here for a bespoke gin for his top restaurants is therefore no surprise.

Lovely spots with character

  • Cappuccino with latte art of a smiling sun, next to a globe

    Philimonius

Do not just say "a coffee for me please" when you mean an americano, or would you rather have a lungo? Years ago Lieven took a barista introduction session with Jo, who had just opened Philimonius. What a revelation. Philimonius has since grown into a barista reference well beyond Aalst. Meanwhile Jo handed the business over to the professional hands of Sam, who carries on the tradition, but of course with a personal touch. It is blissful to linger there, a place where you can not only taste delicious coffee and tea recipes, but where the artisanally prepared cakes served alongside make a Philimonius moment a true treat. And I have not even mentioned the lovely odds and ends for sale in the cosy little shop.

    Louis D'Haeseleerstraat 8

    Website: Philimonius
  • The eetcafé's facade with a street terrace under red parasols and bicycles in front

    EetCafé De Kring

On our street, a cosy down-to-earth eating café. Delicious classics to enjoy at very democratic prices. Beer lovers also get their money's worth thanks to the extensive beer list. And anyone who, like Lieven, is mad about Orval can get it here both young and aged, chilled or at cellar temperature.

  • Laid tables with ochre-yellow chairs by the window lettered De Tafel van Hier in gold

    De Tafel van Hier

Rogier is an entrepreneur to the core. For years he was at the helm of Café de Paris on the Grote Markt, and with his new place on the Peperstraat he goes one better. At De Tafel van Hier, everything that lands on your plate comes from within 100 km of Aalst. From the vegetables to the wine. That takes nerve and a great deal of legwork, but you taste the authenticity on the plate. The menu turns with the seasons and is full of Flemish classics with a twist: beef stew, vol-au-vent, house-made shrimp croquettes, Mechelse koekoek. The easiness of a bar, the ambition of a real kitchen. That it won them the Pieter Van Aelstprijs comes as no surprise. Booking ahead is far from an unnecessary luxury.

  • The brasserie interior with a white wooden draught lobby, red-brown banquettes and guests at the tables

    Café de Paris

For years a fixture on the main square of Aalst. You can go there for a delicious lunch or a tasty dinner.

  • View through the window of a guest at a table, with the cul'eau awning reflected in the glass

Tasty and solid, we need not waste many words on an evening out at Bart's place. Also within walking distance of our B&B, so no need for a designated driver or the search for a parking spot.

Experiences never to forget

Multi-day cycling tours

along cycling junctions through Flanders via B&Bs

We work together with a number of B&Bs that will take care of you just as well as we do. This initiative was started by George of B&B Villa Emma in Sint-Amandsberg near Ghent.

Coming with your own bikes? Great, in our covered and locked bike shed you can let them rest and charge. Would you rather rent a bike? In collaboration with Velo@Home we are happy to help. Booking in good time is the message, though.

For your cycling trip we can also provide you with a simple packed lunch (€15/person). Would you like your luggage delivered to your next destination? We can take care of that too; the fee depends on the distance to your destination (€40 up to 25 km, €80 up to 100 km, beyond that + €0.80/km).

Our story

  1. Ferraris map showing the footprint of the farm

    1787

    A farmstead with centuries-old roots

On the Ferraris maps from the second half of the 18th century, the footprint of our farm is already clearly depicted. Over the years stables were added, demolished, rebuilt, but the soul of the farm remained standing. In the last three quarters of a century the farm became enclosed by the city, the construction of social housing districts, the laying of the ring road and motorway, the building of schools. Farmland and meadows, country lanes, cobblestones and orchards, farms in the neighbourhood, everything bit by bit became city. Hof Beygaert held firm, to now be discovered as an unexpected oasis of calm by all who pass by the farm, by chance or not. At Lindenstraat 7, Lieven's mother was born, daughter of "Roeze" Beygaert and "Staaf" Schockaert. In 1971 the centuries-old farming activities were stopped. In 1995 Rosa passed away at the age of 92 on the farm, in 2012 her younger sister Suzanne passed away at the age of 98 as the last of the Beygaert line.

  2. Foundation stone of the renovation

    2007

    Renovations

2007 was the year we ourselves came to live on the farm with our family of 5, "Aunt Suzanne" still lived sprightly in the farmhouse. We chose to convert the stables into a second living unit. Pig sties and the wood store became living room and kitchen, cow sheds and grain loft became bedrooms and bathrooms. The large barn became Lieven's joinery workshop.

  3. Shell construction of the B&B

    2018

    Construction of B&B Hof Beygaert

With the necessary permits in hand, we began construction of the B&B in spring 2018. The strict building standards forced us, however, to demolish the farmhouse and replace it with a new build. We chose to create the place where we ourselves would very much like to stay. The rooms, finished with high-quality materials, are therefore entirely in line with our private home. The companies we worked with are all local craftsmen with a pronounced passion for their work. And you feel that.

  4. Facade of B&B Hof Beygaert

    2019

    Opening of B&B Hof Beygaert

On 14 August 2019 we opened the doors and welcomed our first guests. On 14 September 2019 we held a cosy opening party with friends, neighbours and invited guests. With great pride we say that we have been able to turn our dream into reality. A running B&B brought to life with blood, sweat, tears and of course a lot of love.

  5. B&B Hof Beygaert during the coronavirus pandemic

    2020 - 2021

B&B Hof Beygaert in times of Covid-19

Fun is something else. The worldwide pandemic strikes hard. After a mandatory closure of 3 months, we were able to welcome guests again at the start of June 2020. Disinfectant dispensers, face masks, disinfecting and airing the rooms between each stay, sufficient space between the breakfast tables. We gladly take on this extra care to keep your stay absolutely perfect.

  6. Natural swimming pool with marginal plants and loungers in the garden

    2026

Natural swimming pool - at last!

It took almost two years to obtain the environmental permit for building a natural swimming pool and rebuilding a small stable. The pool was completed just before winter; the remaining building work is still to come.
